Description
Collected letterpressed mail art on handmade paper of E & Z story, hanji bound. In 2002, a dear childhood friend was diagnosed with leukemia. In 2003, her treatments had all failed and she had been given a few months to live. That fall, I wrote a story about two girlfriends who met as children and played together alot. Once flew away, and one didn't. A couple of months later, I was with my friend when she died. When I came home, I saw the drawing by Marcel Dzama that had sparked the story, with one girl on the ground being held back by a man, and the other girl quietly floating up with tiny wings. In 2004, I did a mail art series based on this story of E and Z, the two girls. It was written from the point of view of E, who was left behind After completing ten chapters, I feld some closure on the mail art portion of the story, but it continued on in my performance work I created this project as my own way of coping with the dying and death of a close friend -- Aimee Lee
