Title
Lapse relapse
Creator
Lee, Aimee
Description
Lapse relapse is made entirely from the paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera), known as dak in Korean and kozo in Japanese, and used often to make hanji (Korean paper) and washi (Japanese paper). The covers and pages are covered with fermented persimmon juice (gammul in Korean and kakishibu in Japanese), sometimes called a dye but more technically a coating that provides permanent color, water resistance, insect resistance, stiffness, and protection. The text, by the artist, is written in pen. -- The Artist

Artist’s Statement
I wrote the text after a terrible week of news, starting from world headlines (the murder of a Jordanian pilot) to local tragedy (a woman killed by a commuter train in New York), to a friend struggling with dying family. -- The Artist
